The Brief
We were approached by events agency We Love This to produce a number of fun and engaging videos that would play on all of the multiplexed screens throughout the Leeds Trinity Centre during an event they were holding for the BBC.
The event was for children aged 6 and under and would take over all open floors of the Leeds Trinity Centre with a massive range of activities and displays being put on for the kids and their parents. The shopping centre was split into zones where a specific activity or show would take place. We were tasked with creating animations that would run constantly throughout the day which would help children and parents find their way around the event. In addition to the signposting videos we were also asked to create ambient animations that were consistent with the theme of the event which would also play on the bulkhead screens around the shopping centre.
The Solution
With a tight deadline we set straight to work storyboarding how we were going to clearly tell people where and when these events would take place, and do it within a 30 second spot. In addition to the signposting animations, we also needed to create the ambient CBeebies clip and a pre-event teaser that would publicise the event in the run up to the day making a total of 11 clips (across the various screen sizes).
After a quick storyboard session we jumped into Illustrator and Photoshop to create the individual frames. Once this was complete we were able to head into After Effects where the frames were animated and brought to life. And once this was done, each clip was re-proportioned to fit the other screen sizes before finally rendering each clip to a strict file-size and format set by the shopping centre display team.
The Result
On the day, the screens looked fantastic with mischievous CBeebies seemingly bouncing from one set of screens to another, naturally leading event-goers’ eyes around the site, encouraging them to explore the event in its entirety. With over 5,000 event goers making their way around the centre, that was a lot of eyes!
