We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Front End Developer to join our team in Leeds. 

We are looking for someone with a passion for web design and development, who is continually looking to update and improve their skills. We have an open attitude to technology and are constantly looking to incorporate new technologies into the work we produce for our clients. You will work well on your own but also collaboratively alongside the other front and back end developers,  UX & UI designers, and the client services team.

Although this is primarily a development role some design experience would be a distinct advantage as we take a  collaborative approach to our work particularly between the design and front end teams. Your input into how designs can be implemented into build, with consideration to interaction and animation will be as important as the quality of the code itself. Ideally, you will be confident in talking about your work, sharing ideas and opinions with your colleagues and bringing new frontend techniques and processes to the table.

Main responsibilities

  • Build responsive HTML5/CSS3 web pages, mobile applications and other digital solutions
  • Work collaboratively with designers to provide excellent interactive front end solutions
  • Ensure web sites use fully semantic markup, are valid to W3C standards and meet W3C WAI and UK DDA legislation requirements
  • Develop unobtrusive JavaScript using standard JavaScript libraries and plugins (e.g. jQuery, prototype etc) plus bespoke code where required
  • Pixel perfect reproduction of designs in modern browsers with suitable degradation in older browsers
  • Build clickable prototypes to aid the UX process and help solve design / build problems

Core skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and efficient working practices
  • Familiarity using the Adobe Creative Suite of software packages such as Photoshop, Illustrator etc…
  • Experience of the capabilities of HTML5 animation and CSS3 transitions
  • Knowledge of W3C WAI and UK DDA legislation
  • An understanding of browsers and rendering issues/bugs with the standard browsers
  • An understanding of developing HTML 5 content for different platforms and devices using responsive design and media queries
  • Experience with twig templating engine
  • Comfortable with one or more open source CMS platform e.g. WordPress/Drupal/symfony
  • Experience building HTML emails
  • Problem solving

Additional skills

  • CSS pre-processors (Sass, LESS)
  • Asset compilation workflows (webpack , Grunt, Gulp)
  • Working knowledge of RequireJS
  • Experience with SVG
  • Experience with open source CSS tools and frameworks
  • Working knowledge/experience with version control systems (SVN, Git)
  • Contributions to the open source community
